On October 13, 2026, Apple announced HomeView, a $299 smart display for the home, and HomePod mini 2, a $149 speaker. Both are built around Siri AI, the new assistant Apple developed using models made "in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models." HomeView launches with Siri AI in beta on November 13. HomePod mini 2 arrives first, on October 30, but without Siri AI at launch. And HomeView won't be sold in the European Union at all, because Siri AI isn't available on iPhones there.
This story is based on Apple's October 13 Newsroom announcements, checked October 14, 2026, plus coverage from MacRumors and AppleInsider.
The short version
- HomeView: 7-inch display, A18 chip, tabletop or wall-mounted, $299 (U.S.). Preorders from October 13; available November 13.
- HomePod mini 2: S10 chip, five colors, $149 (U.S.). Preorders from October 13; in stores October 30.
- Siri AI: beta and English-only on HomeView at launch; on HomePod mini 2 it arrives in "a future software update."
- EU: HomeView isn't sold there. Apple says it's "working constructively with the EU."
What is Apple HomeView?
HomeView is Apple's first smart display: a screen for the kitchen counter or wall that shows your calendar, messages, music and home cameras, and that you mostly talk to. According to Apple, it has:
- a 7-inch Liquid Retina display that dims from 500 nits down to 0.3 nits;
- the A18 chip, with what Apple calls Secure Exclaves, which process camera and microphone data so that it "cannot be accessed by the HomeView software, apps, the user, or Apple";
- built-in Messages, FaceTime (with Center Stage), Calendar, Reminders, Find My, the Siri app and Intercom;
- smart-home controls for lights, locks, blinds and thermostats, and live views of up to nine cameras at once.
Personal content such as messages only appears when HomeView recognizes an enrolled person's face and that person's paired iPhone or iPad is nearby and recently unlocked, Apple says.
HomeView is also the hub for Apple Home Collection, a new line of cameras, a video doorbell, a smart lock, thermostats and sensors that Apple developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric and announced the same day. Apple says availability "begins in December," with select accessories in early 2027.
What does Siri AI do on these devices?
Siri AI is the main reason these products exist, and the reason for the EU decision. It launched as a beta in iOS 27 on September 14; our explainer on Gemini-powered Siri covers how it works and how much Google is actually involved. In short, Apple says Siri requests run on the device or in its Private Cloud Compute servers, not in the Gemini app.
On HomeView, Apple's footnotes say Siri AI is in beta in HomeView software 27.2, works in English in the eight launch countries, and has daily limits on server-side features, with fees possible "in the future." Canadian French is promised in a later free update. Features that use your personal context need a paired Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad. How much runs locally depends partly on the device's neural engine; our NPU explainer covers why.
On HomePod mini 2, Apple says Siri AI "will be available in English on HomePod mini 2 via a future software update" in the same eight countries, and calls it free. Apple says the speaker will recognize up to six household voices. It hasn't given a date.

The wall-mounted HomeView uses one of three separate Schneider Home Power Mounts, Apple says: a USB-C Wall Connector from $59.95, an AC Wired mount from $79.95 that can be ordered now, and a PoE Wired mount at $129.95 arriving in early 2027. HomePod mini 2 also gains a "Sound Glow" light on top, and can listen for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms; Apple warns not to rely on that in an emergency. Apple also announced a new Apple TV 4K the same day.
Why isn't HomeView coming to the EU?
Apple's footnote is direct: "Apple HomeView is not available for sale in the European Union, as Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU." It adds that Apple is "working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward." There's no date.
The HomePod mini 2 release says Siri AI "will not be initially available in the EU in iOS or iPadOS," but doesn't say whether the speaker itself is sold there or which of its 23-plus countries are included.
Apple hasn't spelled out the legal reason in these announcements. AppleInsider ties it to the EU's Digital Markets Act, which it says requires Apple to give rivals access to its technology from day one; Apple argues that compromises privacy, and the European Commission has disputed that. This is a competition-law fight, not the EU AI Act; for what the AI Act does require today, see our EU AI Act explainer.
What it means for you
If you're in one of the eight launch countries and already use an Apple Intelligence iPhone, HomeView is Apple's first device built around Siri AI, but expect beta behavior and daily limits. If you want a HomePod mini 2 for Siri AI, it ships first and gets the new assistant later, on a date Apple hasn't given. Google is pitching AI features in home and wearable hardware the same week; see our coverage of the Gemini-powered Fitbit Edge. In the EU, there's no confirmed path to HomeView yet.
What's confirmed, reported and uncertain
- Confirmed (Apple): prices; chips; colors; preorder and availability dates; launch countries; Siri AI beta and English-only on HomeView; Siri AI later on HomePod mini 2; HomeView not for sale in the EU and Apple's stated reason.
- Reported: the Digital Markets Act background (AppleInsider); Amazon shipping estimates matching the November 13 date (MacRumors).
- Uncertain: when Siri AI reaches HomePod mini 2; whether HomePod mini 2 is sold in EU countries; what Siri AI's future fee will be; any EU timeline.
