ChatGPT now comes in more sizes than ever. The price ladder runs from Free through an $8 Go plan and $20 Plus to three Pro tiers at $100, $200 and $500 a month, plus Business seats and sales-priced Enterprise and Edu plans. Two launches changed what each plan gets. At DevDay on September 29, 2026, OpenAI added Pro 500, the Ultrafast speed tier and always-on dots. On October 7–8, GPT-6 reached the everyday Chat tab. This comparison is based on OpenAI's pricing pages, help center and release notes, checked on October 12, 2026. The full table is in our data file.

The short version

  • Cheapest paid plan: Go at $8/month. It runs the same GPT-6 Luna model as Free, with higher limits, and it may show ads.
  • Most people who pay: Plus at $20/month gets GPT-6 Sol in Chat, plus full ChatGPT Work and Codex with GPT-6.1 Sol and limited GPT-6 Astra.
  • Heavy Codex or Work use: Pro starts at $100/month and currently has no five-hour limit. Pro 500 is the only individual plan with Ultrafast.
  • Teams: Business costs $25 per user monthly or $20 billed annually. The Premium seat ($125 or $100) adds 5x the usage, no five-hour limit and dots.
  • Always-on agents (dots): Pro and Business Premium only, with an opt-in beta for Enterprise.

Prices come from OpenAI's Work and Codex pricing page (Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business), the Pro tiers help article and the Business pricing page. Business Standard and Premium seats can be mixed in one workspace. OpenAI offers nonprofits "up to a 75% discount" on Business or Enterprise.

Prices in other countries

OpenAI publishes plan prices in US dollars. Its help center says purchases are in USD, with local-currency billing in a limited set of countries; its multi-currency billing article lists 69 currencies, including INR, EUR and GBP. None of OpenAI's text pages state local-currency amounts. The price you see at checkout in your country is the one that applies. Go is available "in all countries ChatGPT is supported in," according to OpenAI.

Which models does each plan get?

ChatGPT runs different models in different modes. Chat handles everyday questions. Work runs longer tasks and builds deliverables. Codex is for software. Since October 7–8, 2026:

PlanChat tabWork and Codex

GPT-6.1 Sol is not in the Chat tab on any plan yet. Our GPT-6.1 Sol update explains what changed after DevDay, and our GPT-6 launch coverage covers the models themselves.

A caution on OpenAI's documentation: its "GPT-6 and other models in ChatGPT" help article still lists GPT-5.6 Luna as the Free and Go default. That contradicts the October 7 announcement and release notes, which say GPT-6 Luna replaced it from October 8. GPT-5.5 retires from ChatGPT, Work and Codex on October 14, 2026.

What are the usage limits?

OpenAI doesn't publish fixed message caps for most of ChatGPT. Here is what it does say.

  • Free and Go: "unlimited everyday text chats, subject to abuse-prevention safeguards." Image generation, file uploads, voice and data analysis have separate limits, and Go's are higher.
  • Plus and Business Standard, in Work and Codex: estimates of 5–45 local messages per five hours on GPT-6 Astra, 15–160 on GPT-6.1 Sol and 350–3,000 on GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says these "are not fixed message limits." Its Business limits article gives 15–150 for both Sol models.
  • Pro: "currently no five-hour limit," though weekly limits may apply. OpenAI's DevDay recap says Pro 500 gets "25 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance." OpenAI hasn't published the equivalent multiple for Pro 100 or Pro 200.
  • Business Premium: "5x more usage than standard, with no 5-hour limit."
  • Enterprise and Edu: with flexible pricing, usage scales with credits. Without it, per-seat limits "match Plus for most features."

Work and Codex share one allowance. When it runs out, Plus and Pro users can buy credits, and Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces can buy workspace credits.

Pro 200 changed on September 29. It reopened to new subscribers at the same $200 price with a smaller included allowance. People who had an active Pro 200 subscription between September 22 and 10 a.m. Pacific on September 29 keep the old allowance through October 29, 2026, as long as the subscription stays active.

Last verified: October 12, 2026 (chatgpt.com/pricing). These are ChatGPT figures, not API limits. OpenAI notes that the part available for your own input is smaller, because system instructions and memory also take space. Business and Enterprise figures weren't shown in the public comparison we checked. OpenAI's Business page says Enterprise has an "expanded context window."

Notes on the table:

  • Ultrafast is a faster speed tier for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol in Work and Codex. It uses included allowance at 8x the standard rate, and purchased credits at 6x. Buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 doesn't unlock it.
  • Dots are always-on agents that run on GPT-6 Astra. Your first dot is included with Pro or Business Premium. See our dots explainer.
  • Sign in with ChatGPT plan usage lets partner tools such as Devin, Notion and Vercel draw on your Work and Codex allowance. OpenAI's product docs say Plus and Pro, while one help article also lists Go. See our Sign in with ChatGPT explainer.
  • Ads: OpenAI's release notes say ads began rolling out to Free and Go users in the UK on June 4, 2026, and that paid plans from Plus up stay ad-free. On October 5, OpenAI said it would start testing a new visual ad format with US Free and Go users later in October.
  • Pro billing: OpenAI says "Pro is billed monthly. Annual billing and payment for multiple months in advance are not available."
